If you’re wanting your stunning abayas to last longer so you can wear and love them for years, you’re in the right place. We’re here to talk about the different ways you can prolong the life of your abayas to keep them in your wardrobe for years!
Choose Good Quality Abayas
The first thing you can do to help prolong the life of your abayas is to choose good quality. Rather than buying cheaper ones that last a short while then start to look worse, invest in a couple of great quality ones. Not only do you get to enjoy the better quality, but it’s better for the environment, and they’ll last much longer. For example, in your collection, perhaps just have one black abaya that is perfect for you, rather than 5 that are all just okay. You’ll also be much more comfortable!
Wash On 30 Degrees
You should also carefully follow the care instructions of your abaya, or wash at 30 degrees. If you’re washing any hotter, it can damage your clothes, both short term and long term, whether it’s slight shrinkage, wearing out or the fibres breaking down and looking worn. You’ll also save energy by running a cooler cycle! This is a simple swap that has so many benefits, including your abayas lasting longer. The main thing is to follow the care instructions that come with your abaya, as some very delicate materials might be hand washed only.
Get A Garment Steamer
To get your abayas looking pristine, we’d recommend getting a garment steamer instead of using an iron. You don’t need to do all the set up that you do with an ironing board, however the big benefit is that steamers are much more gentle on fabrics and provide more even heat, whereas irons can be quite uneven at times. One of the reasons that steaming is better is that it doesn’t compress the fibres like ironing does, so your clothes will last longer!
Store Them Properly
Another way to get your abayas to last longer is to store them properly. You want to get quality hangers that won’t pull at particular areas or cause your abayas to hang unevenly, as this will gradually affect the shape at the top and cause them to sit weirdly. This is also the case when it comes to thobes. Also, you should be storing your abayas in a cool and dry place, as any excess moisture or heat can affect your clothes over time.
Rotate Your Collection
Lastly, you should be rotating your collection of abayas. Not only will this help you to make sure you’re wearing all of your stunning abayas, but it will help to ensure that you’re not wearing one out really quickly. We’re big believers that having 4 or 5 abayas that you regularly wear is much better than 20 poor quality ones where most of them get forgotten about.
